Nadia's Question

If we traveled to Mars, how would we survive?
It would be hard to live on Mars, but a lot of scientists are trying to make it so we can live there. There is no oxygen on Mars so we would have to bring our own. It is also very cold there so we would need lots of warm clothes and blankets. We would also need a way of preparing food to eat. Everything we use on Earth we would have to bring to Mars or build there. There is no wood or metals there so we would have to bring those with us to build houses. We could also use the wood to start a fire to cook food until we get electricity working on Mars. I do not think I would want to live there until the scientists make it as good as it is here.

Lauren's Question

If you could rename Mars, what would you pick for the new name and why?
If I could rename the plant Mars I would pick the name Blueberry Alyssa. I would pick this name because there is a 13 year old girl from Louisiana who is training to become an astronaut. She wants to be the first person to step foot on Mars. The girl's name is Alyssa Carson. Her nickname at NASA is Blueberry. This is a really big dream and if her dream is able to come true, I think we should rename Mars in her honor. She is willing to sacrifice never seeing her family again to go to Mars. I hope she would be able to come back to her family if she does get to go to Mars, but that is her dream and she is not going to let anything stand in her way. Naming a planet after this girl would also be a lesson for other girls and kids to accomplish their dreams.

Johnny's Question

Would it be possible to live on this planet?
I do not think it would be possible to grow plants on this planet because the soil does not have the right nutrients in the soil. Because the surface of Mars is made mostly of rocks. It might be possible to bring out own soil to the planet and try to grow plants that way. They did recently find water on mars.

Group #1: Mars

1. What does your planet look like?
Mars is large and red. It is one of the hotter planets because it is
an inner planet, which means that it is
close to the sun. Much of the surface is made up of rocks. It is
    about 1840 miles across.
    Here are some pictures:

2. How far is your planet from the sun?
Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. That is about 141.6 million
   miles away.
3. What is your planet made of?
Mars is made up of basalt and iron dust which were both caused
by volcanoes on Mars. The core of the
planet is surrounded by a mantel made out of silicates.
4. How did your planet get its name?
Mars is named after the Roman god Mars. It is also called the red
    planet because of its color.
5. How old is your planet?
Mars is estimated to be 4.503 billion years old.
